The right location for your dressing room
In the bedroom, in a clearance, in a dedicated room, everything is possible to create a dressing room. The important criterion to take into account before choosing the ideal place is to think about the depth available to fold and suspend your clothes. You have to think about some specificities:
– The dressing room must be close to your bedroom, in order to have your wardrobe at hand when you wake up.
– Benefit from a good natural light to choose your outfit and have the right color rendering you will wear.
– Having a heated place, if it’s where you are going to dress. Ventilation is also necessary to avoid odors and humidity.
The room
This is the most usual place to store your clothes. If you have a large area, you can replace your cabinet with a dressing room. Several possibilities are available to you:
– On a section of wall: if your room is more than 10 m², you can install your storage space in front of your bed or in a corner. This choice allows a classic and ergonomic arrangement. However, you have to have the space to circulate without difficulty. You must count between 60 and 75 cm of space between your bed and your dressing room.
– In a smaller bedroom, you can install your dressing room behind the headboard that you will come to close with a sliding wall or a curtain.
A fully dedicated room
If the living space of your home allows, you can use an entire empty part to establish your dressing room. You don’t necessarily need a lot of surface, but to be comfortable, you need at least 3.5 m². You will be able to easily install multiple stoards such as wardrobes with sliding doors (or without), wall shelves, carriers, drawers etc … and thus create a real tailor-made storage space.
In the corridor
If you don’t have a large part to accommodate your dressing room, a corridor over 80 cm wide is sufficient. With suitable or tailor-made furniture, you can create a small storage space.
Choose your dressing room depending on the chosen part
Your dressing room is a full -fledged layout where you can store as many clothes as possible while having easy access. The choice of part is therefore important to choose between the 3 most common provisions:
. L
It is perfectly suitable for the corner dressing room, you will set up shelves, drawers and wardrobes. It is a perfect arrangement for a large room, because it extends over the 2 walls of the room.
. And you
This configuration is the ideal model if you want to devote an entire part to your storage. Indeed, it extends over the 3 walls of the room. For an apartment, you can choose the cabin dressing option, which allows you to have a closed space without using an entire room.
. One in
It is the most common and classic model. The storage space holds on a wall and allow you to enjoy a dressing room in a small room.
The development of your dressing room according to your needs
Once you have defined the configuration of your dressing room, you may think about the layout of it and define what you need.
A dressing room organized with drawers, shelves and wardrobe
Before you think of which accessory to choose for your dressing room, you have to take the time to sort your wardrobe. It’s time to get rid of the clothes you don’t wear anymore and see more clearly. Once this sorting is done, you can determine and imagine the dressing room of your dreams. You will thus have an interior layout adapted to your wardrobe, by choosing the number of shelves, drawers, the length of the wardrobe etc.
With the sorting made, you will realize what type of clothing you wear most often and that you have in greater numbers. If you have a lot of small dresses and short jackets/coats, you can install 2 wardrobe bars under the other in order to save space. There are height wardrobes that you can lower with a tilting rod to access the height clothes without taking out the stool. Access to your clothes must be easy and functional, without that you will not use those who turn out to be too difficult to access.
The shelves allow you to receive t-shirts, sweaters, pants, jeans. You can choose shelves of different widths, it all depends if you want to separate each typology of clothing or juxtapose them. With your wardrobe, you personalize all the details.
Trick : You can use height storage that is not easily accessible to store your big winter clothes or what you use occasionally such as bed or home linen
For the drawers, you do not need to put a lot, 2 or 3 are enough to store your underwear and socks.
You may also think about installing traps for your hats, scarves and long necklaces.
An open or closed dressing room?
The open dressing room:
Do not install doors or closet in your dressing room allows you to have visibility on your entire wardrobe. You easily create your outfits in the morning, because you have everything in sight.
Your wardrobe being open, it will attract the look into the room. Your clothes will bring in color and you can highlight your most beautiful pieces.
The main drawback of this type of dressing is that it must be well tidy and dust will infiltrate more easily.
The closed dressing room
Closing your closet will melt it into your room. Your clothes will be better protected. To close this one you have different solutions:
The hinged doors, they require space for opening, and opening them, you have your entire wardrobe at hand.
Sliding doors are ideal when you have little space, because they come to slip on the side. With this type of closure, you will not see your entire dressing room at a glance. Tailor-made sliding closet doors are ideal for closing dressings with atypical measurements. Depending on the number of doors in the dressing room, you can install a 2-way or tri-lives rail system. The latter allows a larger opening (2/3 of the cupboard).
The curtain, the simplest solution. It can bring an additional decoration touch to your room. You can choose them with patterns or not and alternate colors for more originality.
It is also possible to have a semi-open dressing room by closing only one side.
Store and complete your tailor-made dressing?
Once you have chosen the part or the place of installation of your dressing room, the elements composing it, decided if it is closed or open; You can then think about the additional accessories to perfect this storage space.
Lighting
It is necessary to have quality lighting in your dressing room. You can install lighting in your ceiling, but also add the light stitches inside your dressing room. You can install spotlights, lighting rods, strips of LED light ….
Compartmentalized storage
Do you want to store your jewelry, sunglasses, ties, etc … in your dressing room? It is possible thanks to the compartmentalized drawers. There are some with a velvet touch coating for the most fragile objects.
The sliding tablet
Do you need space to fold or unfold your things? The sliding tablet is perfect, it is discreet, because once closed it looks like a simple drawer.
Shoe storage
You can store them in different ways:
– Showroom or shop with niches for people passionate about shoes with a beautiful collection to exhibit.
– Sliding drawer storage to keep the shoes straight with suitable supports.
The mirror
This is an essential element for your dressing room to check your outfit, makeup or hairstyle. You can choose a closet door with mirror leaves where you can see your head on the foot. If your dressing room is open, there are sliding mirrors that settle in your dressing room and know how to be discreet when you no longer need it. In the case of an L or I dressing room, you can also use the unused wall to install a large wall mirror.
You now have everything in hand to create the dressing room of your tailor -made dreams.
